We’re a community
Just like a small-town community has businesses, people, schools and even cemeteries – Learnersville uses the metaphor to bring structure and organization to a library of multimedia stories and learning resources.
Tellers, teachers, and learners all live in our community. Tellers are craftsman in the art of finding, building, and delivering short stories. As you can imagine, teachers are the ones with messages to share. And learners, they’re the ones who keep our community alive and growing.
Everyone has a story
The universe is made of stories, not atoms. – Murial Rukeyser
Everyone has a story worth sharing. What’s yours? Maybe you have personal stories about …
- Lessons learned
- Family memories
- Moments of inspiration
Stories can show who you are, what you’ve done, and what you can do. Stories can entertain, educate, even inspire us. Our minds are wired for stories. We may crave facts that make us believe a story, but long after the facts are gone it will be the emotion of a story well told that we remember.
Imagine you’re looking at an educational display – perhaps at the I-74 rest stop just outside of Batesville, Indiana. On the 4'x6' maps are places of interest you should visit while visiting Indiana. Maybe you want to know more, like …
- Who lived there?
- Why is it historical?
- How do I get there?

Learn & Earn
You can also earn reward coupons for learning and sharing.
Like Janice Bryant Howroyd – the first African American woman to own a $1 billion business – said …
The more you learn, the more you want to know.
Our nature is to learn – and learn more. Maybe we need in-depth product understanding or want to understand why someone has such an emphatic point of view. Sponsored learning gives an opportunity for teachers to tell their side of the story, and to compensate learners for spending time to listen, respond, and share.
There was a time when everyone in a community kept up with what was going on by subscribing to the local newspaper. Write the content, publish it once, and then broadcast the same thing to everyone. It didn’t matter what your interests were. Whether you worked at the mill, owned a dry goods store, or cut hair at the barbershop down on the square – everyone got the same view.
The Learnersville Free Press is a story stream where every subscriber can choose by topic, teller, or both – only the stories from the community they want to follow.
We think you’ll like being a part of our community. Welcome to Learnersville!
A story behind the story
Just like life, behind every story there’s usually another story.
It might be the backstory, about how and why the story you read took place. Or it could be several paragraphs that dig deeper, adding a few ideas on to the front story.
Sometimes the story behind the story is a vignette or anecdote – there to give you a laugh and something to ponder.
Not every story in Learnersville has another story behind it – but if you see a circular image at the end of a story, click or tap it to show the hidden story. Do it again and you’ll return to the front story.
